Summary

Data is an essential piece of any stewardship initiative, but setting up the right infrastructure for success can be challenging. In this workshop, ARUP Healthcare Advisory Services experts Sandy Richman and Tony Smith will explore the necessary steps to establish your data-driven program, setting you up to lead your organization in value-based and cost-saving initiatives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the main steps of data extraction and analysis
  • Discuss how data can affect stewardship via a use case scenario
  • Describe the roadblocks that need to be overcome to successfully implement data-driven stewardship

Sandy Richman is director of Healthcare Advisory Services at ARUP Laboratories with more than 20 years of combined clinical, financial, and consulting experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining ARUP, Sandy was Vice President of Healthcare Advisory Services at PNC Healthcare where he worked closely with leadership teams from hospitals across the country to improve their revenue cycle and treasury management operations. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Utah and is board certified as a technologist in Chemistry by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Tony Smith is a senior healthcare consultant with more than 20 years of laboratory experience. He graduated from Western Technical College with a medical laboratory technician associate’s degree. Later, he received a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management from Metropolitan State University of Denver. He also completed an internship with the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences as a medical laboratory technician. He specializes in laboratory stewardship, laboratory utilization management, pediatric hospital laboratory medicine, and laboratory networking.

 

    This workshop is held in conjunction with the PLUGS® Summit 2023 and is offered at no additional cost to PLUGS Summit attendees.
